One Room Challenge - Week Four | A Little More Action

A little less conversation, a little more painting… or whatever Elvis said. Well, we finally picked up the paint from Sherwin Williams and we picked up a lot of it. They were gracious enough to sponsor the order and gifted us several quarts of paint as well as supplies for this project.

My good friend, Asha, @thepinkpainther, is designing a mural in the room using these colors and it’s going to be SO GOOD. We’re keeping the tropical vibes going with some tropical greenery and Asha’s signature style. That’s all I’ll tell you.

We’re playing with paint illusions and paint features in the room. Initially we were going to do a white base for the walls to keep everything bright and fresh, but when we saw ‘whirlpool’ in person and how amazing it looked next to ‘raging sea’ , we pivoted and decided to make whirlpool the base in the room. Now we’re working with whirlpool as the base color and raging sea as the secondary color. That color will be used on the crown moulding to create an illusion of a more built up crown and draw the eye upwards to help maximize the space visually.

We’ll be painting the base trim the same color as the wall , as opposed to keeping it white, lengthen the wall and add texture. This is one of the tricks I recommend when working within a color palette. The more of one color you see in a space, the more your brain registers it as ‘same’. In this case, by not breaking up the room with white trim or even adding contrasting trim at or below eye level, we’re forcing your eye upwards.

We also picked up an amazing bed that we found on Facebook Marketplace for 10% of the retail price. This bed is a solid wood heirloom quality gem that the seller had for about 2 decades before it became ours. It’s US made in North Carolina by This End Up Furniture from Southern Yellow Pine. It has a trundle piece that weighs 85lbs by itself and will make a fine rival for my vivacious 2.5 year old who makes it his mission to search and destroy all nice things.

Next on the list is to find a storage solution that fits the bill. I know what the right choice is for the space, but I just need to find it. Wish me luck and Don’t forget to check out the other amazing spaces in the ORC!
